The Power of Rhythm in Building Community

Music and art have become powerful instruments of social transformation in the heart of Marmajón, between the municipalities of Segovia and Remedios. The Sodhi Foundation promotes a comprehensive educational process that goes beyond mere musical instruction and helps nurture identity, creativity, as well as a sense of belonging amongst the children and youth in the region through the Guitamboreros Artistic and Cultural Training Program of the Foundation.

Percussion, chirimía, guitar, and handicrafts are far more than artistic expressions: they are languages of connection and collective growth. As one participant beautifully expressed, “Percussion is the rhythm that makes my heart beat faster and fills me with joy.” Each rehearsal and every note reflects the spirit of a community that vibrates to the pulse of its traditions and finds in art a pathway to dream and to transform.

Educating to Transform: Art as a Tool for Social Development

For the program’s instructors, teaching music is an act of profound transformation. “To teach music is to transform territories, to transform people,” one of them affirms. This statement embodies the essence of the Guitamboreros Program: using artistic education as a vehicle for social development and the strengthening of community bonds.

Each learning session cultivates values such as discipline, teamwork, respect for cultural diversity, and love for tradition. Teaching the rhythms and sounds of our regions is a way to preserve national identity, keep our roots alive, and pass on the cultural legacy to future generations.

Sowing Hope Through Art

Through the Guitamboreros Program, the Sodhi Foundation reaffirms its commitment to art as a transformative force. This initiative not only promotes artistic expression but also creates meaningful opportunities for human development, inclusion, and peaceful coexistence.

With every drumbeat, a seed of hope is planted. These children and young people are the future guardians of our cultural identity, and their learning strengthens the community ties that make a fairer, more creative, and more vibrant future possible.

The Sodhi Foundation continues to demonstrate that art is not only taught; it is lived, shared, and used to transform lives.
