Cognitive Stimulation and Therapeutic Art: Reconnecting Memories in Rural Antioquia
Enhancing Elderly Well-being through Creativity and Expression
As part of the Memorias de Vida program, Fundación Quintana (the Colombian subsidiary of the Sodhi Foundation) conducted the first handicraft workshop of 2025 in El Aporriado, a rural area in Segovia, Antioquia. The initiative aimed to stimulate cognitive functions in elderly participants through a therapeutic artistic activity.
A Creative Experience to Reconnect with Memories and Emotions
The core of the workshop was the creation of diamond-tip mandalas—a technique that blends color, shine, and precision. This practice is not only visually engaging but also deeply therapeutic. A total of 21 elderly individuals from the rural areas of El Aporriado (Segovia) and La Cianurada (Remedios) joined the session, many of them exploring this type of art for the very first time.
Through the process, participants engaged both their hands and minds, rediscovering past experiences while building emotional resilience and community ties. Far beyond a simple craft, the session became a meaningful journey toward memory activation and emotional healing.
Local Partnerships for Rural Well-being
This event was made possible with the vital support of the El Aporriado Community Action Board (JAC), a key local partner that helped bring the initiative to life. Their involvement demonstrates the power of grassroots collaboration in expanding access to holistic health initiatives.
The Sodhi Foundation remains firmly committed to supporting elderly well-being in rural territories, fostering innovative methods that integrate mental health, creativity, and community participation.
