The Sodhi Foundation reaffirms its commitment to social transformation in Colombia through evidence-based educational and research initiatives. An outstanding example is the successful implementation of the Kumon methodology in Remedios, Antioquia—a model that validates targeted investment in academic support and sets a benchmark for empowering children in rural areas.
Quality Education: A Catalyst for Social Mobility
A substantial body of academic evidence underscores quality education as the foremost determinant of social mobility and the reduction of inequalities. Programs that focus on core competencies—literacy and numeracy—are foundational. The Kumon methodology, which fosters self-learning and individualized progress, aligns with the Sodhi Foundation’s vision of promoting academic autonomy, confidence, and disciplinary excellence.
Measurable Progress: The Case of Santa Isabel
The advancement of Salomé Herrera García, an 8-year-old student from Santa Isabel, Remedios, stands as concrete evidence of the methodology’s effectiveness. Since joining the program in March 2024, Salomé has demonstrated remarkable development:
-
Mathematics: Salomé began at Level 3A, focused on basic horizontal addition, and has rapidly progressed to Level C, gaining fluency in mental calculation for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and the fundamentals of division.
-
Spanish Literacy: Commencing at Level 6A (early literacy), she has advanced to Level AII, actively engaging with grammatical concepts, sentence construction, spelling, and reading comprehension.
Strategic Outlook and Commitment
The rigorous approach and continuous support provided by the Sodhi Foundation illustrate the potential to accelerate cognitive growth and bridge educational gaps in resource-limited environments. These results reinforce the Foundation’s belief that applied research and the adoption of proven educational models are among the most effective drivers for life-changing transformation.
The Sodhi Foundation remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that guarantee quality education, recognizing it as a true engine of social progress for children and women in the communities served.
