Art and Culture Transform Rural Communities in Antioquia

In Marmajón, a rural village nestled between Segovia and Remedios, art has become a seed of hope and a tool for building community. Through its Artistic and Cultural Training Program “Guitamboreros”, The Sodhi Foundation offers children and young people a space to discover their talents, strengthen their cultural identity, and develop values of coexistence through music, visual arts, and the imaginative world of puppetry.
Art as a Language of Transformation
For participants, art is not only about learning techniques—it is a way to express emotions, spark creativity, and give new life to imagination. Painting, drawing, and creating puppets from recycled materials turn into playful, hands-on experiences that encourage environmental awareness, cooperation, and creative exploration.
As one child expressed:
“I like coming because we learn so much. We make friends, share activities, and do crafts. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be here.”

More Than Artists, Citizens with Values
The program’s mission goes beyond teaching artistic skills. At its core, The Sodhi Foundation nurtures children who learn to share, respect, and live harmoniously with others. Each workshop strengthens socio-emotional skills, brings joy through creation, and shows that art can also be a pathway to environmental stewardship and personal growth.
The Guitamboreros initiative demonstrates that when artistic opportunities take root in rural communities, they help cultivate children and youth with open hearts, creative minds, and resilient spirits—a generation prepared to express themselves, dream boldly, and contribute to stronger, more caring communities.
